Are artificial sweeteners bad for you? (Try these 3 fruits instead!)

If you're anything like us, you’re tempted by sugary goods. These items are very high in artificial sweeteners and high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS).

According to Rachael Hartley, a nutritional therapist and dietitian, sugar is fine in moderation. Many foods are naturally rich in sugar like fruits and dairy. We just need to find the right balance by switching bad with good sugars.

Just like how there are good fats and bad ones, the same applies to good and bad sugars.

What are considered bad sugars?

Candy packets and store bought baked goods hold a high amount of HFCS that has been shown to lead to today’s obesity epidemic.

In the past most individuals only consumed a small amount of fructose which was no problem to anyone's health at the time. Things started to change when shipments were sent out about these high-fructose corn syrup products in the late 1960s. These HFCS products were made to change the food industry and to make many foods taste better such as chocolate bars and branded cookie products.

What is the real cause for the increase in obesity?

High-fructose corn syrup and artificial sweeteners aren't the cause for obesity but rather a contributing factor. The human body needs to consume a certain amount of fructose in order to convert it to glucose so it can be used for energy.

A study from Yale University- School of Medicine found that individuals that consumed products with additive sugar are shown to have a spike in their hypothalamus region of their brain compared to individuals that consume products with natural glucose sweeteners.

This spiked activity tells the brain that I am not full yet, and creates the urge to consume more sugary items. This is why it’s suggested to eat more natural glucose sweeteners like apples, grapefruit, and pickles.

Top fruits to add to your eating plan

1. Apples

Apples are the holy grail to all good sources of vitamins & minerals. They contain high amounts of fiber, along with vitamin A, B, and K. They carry loads of antioxidants that have been shown to promote good cardiovascular health and reduce signs of cancer, Alzheimer's, and even type 2 diabetes.

2. Grapefruit

Grapefruits carry many nutritional needs similar to apples. The difference though, is its rich source of vitamin C. This helps to protect your body’s cells from harmful viruses and bacteria such as Covid-19.

3. Pickles

Pickles are a fascinating type of fruit since they’re derived from fermented cucumbers. They’re a low source of calories and sugar, however, they’re very high in sodium. Some pickles even contain beneficial bacteria that come from the brine.

Fermented brine AKA pickle juice is known to alleviate muscle cramps, holds probiotics, blood sugar regulation, fighting antioxidants, and may support weight loss.

There’s a wide variety of fruits out there. Some fruits will be more nutritional than others. Try to make some small adjustments to your overall meal plan and add at least 1 fruit per day for these nutritional benefits.

Not everyone likes the taste of pickles or pickle juice

With the trend of pickle juice booming since the summer of 2017, a lot of individuals have started to get creative with recipes to incorporate pickles and pickle juice for its nutritional benefits. This helped to make the taste more delightful to those who are not a fan of its famous salty and sour taste.

The rise of high blood pressure and heart disease

Aside from the amount of popularity that drinking pickle juice has gotten, there is one leading negative factor: Sodium.

On average, pickle juice holds 877mg of sodium overall. That's way over the recommended daily serving we should be having. For most individuals, consuming 877mg of sodium can do a lot of damage in the long run, especially those that are prone to heart disease or high blood pressure.

Pickle Pill was born

Our founder stumbled upon the trend that everyone was so fascinated about, which was pickle juice. A lot of athletes at this point were drinking this stuff to prevent and stop their muscle cramps.

He ran into two events leading to a creation that could change the whole supplemental industry:

During his son’s football game, in the third quarter, his son had to sit on the side bench after a brutal cramp located along his hamstring which took him out of the game.

He woke up out of bed one night with excruciating pain running up this leg and could not do anything at the time except wait it out. Due to the high intensity muscle contraction, he was left with a discolored leg. The doctor wouldn’t prescribe anything that could further prevent this event from happening. He suggested just staying hydrated and stretching before going to bed.

He had enough, he didn't want to live like this or want others to suffer as well. He wanted to create something that would satisfy everyone's needs and create beneficial outcomes for each and every person.

With the right balance of electrolytes, minerals, and vitamins, he made Pickle Pill to be the perfect daily supplement for everyone. Along with alleviating muscle cramps it provides:

  • Energy Boost
  • Increases Mood
  • Boost Immunity
  • Reduces Brain-Fog
  • Reduces Dizziness

So say goodbye to salty- sour pickle juice and hello to your New Best Friend, Pickle Pill.
